MEET OUR FAMILY
The Gillie’s
Back in 1974, Jan Gillie opened an ice cream shop. Within a year Gillie’s became one of the first places in Blacksburg to serve soup and bread. Ranae Gillie joined the business in the 1980’s.
The menu grew, and now Gillie’s offers inspired vegetarian and seafood using the freshest, healthiest ingredients for the best home made results.
With its warm and inviting atmosphere Gillie’s is the perfect combination of down home charm and progressive vegetarian.
Whether you are looking for a quiet, healthful meal, a fun and filling breakfast, late night music, or catering for a special event, Gillie’s brings it to you, naturally.

OUR STORY
“Growing up in a vegetarian and pescatarian household, we always wanted to eat what the other kids were having. We were curious about trying chicken, burgers, or bacon. So when we became old enough to start cooking, our mission has been to create dishes that were not only similar to meat based meals, but better. Whenever we see a meat based recipe, our first instinct is to ‘reinvent the meal’ to be vegetarian, vegan, or even gluten-free.”
Nick and Noah have grown up in the restaurant with the crib in the corner or toddling around chatting with the locals. They really enjoy the challenge of making comfort food that everyone can eat and believe that a delicious plate of food does not have to be made with meat.
Noah’s favorite entrée to make is the Brazilian Seitan Arepas and Nick’s favorite dish to make is the Blackened Catfish Sandwich. They both really enjoy coming up with specials that keep customers interested in new, exciting dishes. Come on in and meet the family.
“Gillie’s Restaurant is a part of us and we are inspired by seeing the business continue to grow over the years to become a cornerstone of Blacksburg.”
